Drunk on a pyramid and glad<\/span><\/p>\n

where booze was available<\/span><\/p>\n

and the rooms free, for all we cared;<\/span><\/p>\n

our only concern how to kiss<\/span><\/p>\n

girls and not say the stupid thing.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

But the stupid thing<\/span><\/p>\n

would be said, and no longer glad\u2014<\/span><\/p>\n

the girls having gone unkissed,<\/span><\/p>\n

disappointed and more unavailable<\/span><\/p>\n

than ever, we burned<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

and like a blessing in other cities tried kissing<\/span><\/p>\n

the same girls with the same care-<\/span><\/p>\n

free swagger we faked so badly\u2014and being available<\/span><\/p>\n

to heartbreak, the stupid thing<\/span><\/p>\n

we loved, made us glad<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

though unnaturally<\/span><\/p>\n

sensitive it did us little good kissing<\/span><\/p>\n

or not kissing; we\u2019d never be glad<\/span><\/p>\n

in cities at home or far away.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Everything seemed available<\/span><\/p>\n

that summer: so even saying the stupid thing<\/span><\/p>\n

didn\u2019t seem so bad, though kissing<\/span><\/p>\n

the girls now seemed like taking careless<\/span><\/p>\n

chances with our luck.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I was lucky<\/span><\/p>\n

to be so unhappy, the stupid thing<\/span><\/p>\n
