I watch them every morning at the breakfast counter\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

eating scrambled eggs with forks pointed prong-side-down,<\/span><\/p>\n

probing the yellowed fetal goop, scooping heaps<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

of mashed yoke on the sloping side of the metal<\/span><\/p>\n

so I smile every time the hoped-for mouthful falls, slumped<\/span><\/p>\n

in a pile on the plate, the morning-men settling<\/span><\/p>\n


\n<\/span>for a few haphazard egg-stragglers hanging from the spines.<\/span><\/p>\n

I try it, thinking I\u2019ve gotten on my travels some new<\/span><\/p>\n

and interesting habit others back home might notice<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

and ask me where I\u2019ve picked up such a strange notion, maybe<\/span><\/p>\n

poke fun, but I wouldn\u2019t mind, hopelessly shifting eggs<\/span><\/p>\n

around my plate\u2014to be set apart from the average<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

breakfast eaters! I try it a while and go hungry, the meal<\/span><\/p>\n

cooling, hoping no one\u2019s noticed my spinning the handle<\/span><\/p>\n

back and forth so maybe they\u2019ll wonder if I\u2019ve ever used<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

a fork at all, poor confused man; <\/span>no, like this: see!<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Where did we get the idea that different equals better?<\/span><\/p>\n

I sip the stale coffee, and give up on breakfast altogether.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
