She wants to be Cruella, disintegrating<\/span><\/p>\n

into a glamorous obsession, lost\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

but only slightly crazed. She hasn\u2019t<\/span><\/p>\n

been abandoned in the woods<\/span><\/p>\n

and these aren\u2019t woods but rather<\/span><\/p>\n

the stock of an overgrown tree farm.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She wears her great-grandmother\u2019s fur stole,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

wraps the mink around her throat\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

and kisses the camera. This young woman\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

would never hurt a puppy<\/span><\/p>\n

even to pretend she\u2019s something wild.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Still, she\u2019s hoping to inhabit this feral daylight,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

hoping the light will catch her cheek<\/span><\/p>\n

and call her a thing of beauty.<\/span><\/p>\n

Most of the time she is merely<\/span><\/p>\n

a thing among beauty\u2014the moss<\/span><\/p>\n

green as a wish, the trees holding hands.<\/span><\/p>\n

The pearls stacked like armor around<\/span><\/p>\n

her collar bone. The warm luster.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She reminds people of Snow White.<\/span><\/p>\n

She wonders if she\u2019s that insipid.<\/span><\/p>\n

She has no taste for hearts,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

yet she loves the drama of an evil<\/span><\/p>\n

queen\u2019s eyeshadow. She wants to be\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

a villain or she just wants to command\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

a little respect. In her dreams\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

she\u2019s being chased, keeps forgetting\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

to scream. She\u2019s taken to sleeping<\/span><\/p>\n

with the stole, a companion to caress\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

when she wakes to the alarm<\/span><\/p>\n

neither princess nor sorceress,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
