I learned to love folding a boat\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

out of a single piece of loose leaf.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019d make the mast high & sometimes\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

would add a toothpick & tinfoil sail<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

but every time I launched the yacht\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

the voyage was an utter failure\u2014<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

grounded on mossy rocks or scuttled<\/span><\/p>\n

between the bars of the creek\u2019s culvert.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And in my dreams I\u2019d hear\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

them scream. All the imaginary<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

micro-machine people who had boarded\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

my boat with the best intentions\u2014<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

intending to find a new life,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

or at least one better than this.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And the next day I\u2019d fold. Walk<\/span><\/p>\n
