{"id":2033,"date":"2026-05-07T12:00:47","date_gmt":"2026-05-07T17:00:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sagebrushreview.org\/wordpress\/?p=2033"},"modified":"2026-05-07T12:38:50","modified_gmt":"2026-05-07T17:38:50","slug":"potholes-potheads-and-paint-chips","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/sagebrushreview.org\/wordpress\/2026\/05\/potholes-potheads-and-paint-chips\/","title":{"rendered":"POTHOLES, POTHEADS, AND PAINT CHIPS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">People lose some inhibition when the canopy of stars<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0mock their single wide below: such beauty staring with such pity.<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Paint chips at the same rate as ones sensibility,<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0and a new coat is just so goddamn expensive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Thus, one hears many things when walking this town at night:<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0drunken brawls on the pothole street,<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">amber flicks from the potheads perch,<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0cats in heat and dogs longing to lick the moon,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">bugs carrying on in the grass.<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Go deep enough into the cavernous night,<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">deep into the carnivorous town,<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0and one might meet the winos and chain smokers,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the rednecks under back porch awnings,<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0the headlamp hillbillies in their weed-devoured lawns,<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">looking for the meth bag they dropped last Wednesday.<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Deeper still and one may hear trumpets, big bands, and lion roars,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and think<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Oh god, it\u2019s the rapture<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">.
