We perched together,\u2028dug in roots that\u2028reached but did not intertwine\u2028for so long to each other,<\/span><\/p>\n

the first hint felt like\u2028failing, felt like too many\u2028trials rushing in.<\/span><\/p>\n

But they were groundwater\u2028quenching parch thirst, clearing\u2028the throat for what came,<\/span><\/p>\n

brilliant laps of sunshine\u2028that didn\u2019t waste themselves, turning\u2028our leave a bright flash shade<\/span><\/p>\n

of green-blue crashing off the\u2028sky.<\/span><\/p>\n

We looked to and dreamed\u2028of how to float, if only there<\/span><\/p>\n

weren\u2019t these tangles that kept us\u2028tethered to the ground.<\/span><\/p>\n

But then, sometimes,<\/span><\/p>\n

We felt it was good to be\u2028just where we were,\u2028with nothing else<\/span><\/p>\n

but the memory that we\u2028were once so solitary, so unringed by oaken time.<\/span><\/p>\n

And now had a perfect spot\u2028to shade each other.<\/span><\/p>\n
