Fanfiction

A dopamine rush of poorly placed semicolons,
a saline flush to exit the daydreams formed

by blue bloodshot eyes peeking above my glasses’ rim,
flowing out of my body through an online catheter.

Mini movies play each night as the screen door shuts
inside a head weary of student loans and rejection letters;

cafes where Ancient Chinese swordsmen make out
behind the counter in between shifts while Goku’s

grandkids Tanjiro and Inosuke spill piping hot mochas
on each other without a single demon to fight in sight.

A hypodermic needle of shitty summaries slapped together
straight into my sullen-hearted chest despite being

as simple as dull-pointed penciled doodles
on the margins of Algebra worksheets.

A written drug: nothing more, nothing less
