Bright Mirage

Philosophers struggled through a labyrinth of myths toward the bright mirage of truth.

 – Will Durant, 1950

When forced to choose between certain disembowelment by a ravenous Minotaur

approximately the opposite of dying in your sleep

or dedicating your life to useful delusions

dying in your sleep every blessed day,

I’ll keep crawling like an infant

on my knees and penitent,

always closer yet never quite arriving

at a twinkling glimmer on the horizon
